The Very Best Mods for Final Fantasy XV

Look at Modding for Final Fantasy XV

It is time to continue our Final Fantasy modding list. Today’s focus is on Final Fantasy XV (Windows Edition) and the arsenal of mods that can still improve and spice up your gameplay experience. This is also the first Final Fantasy title to have official mod support by Square Enix, however, there was supposed to be a lot more but that was canceled due to the game having not so great sales record I guess?

Also check out our previous Final Fantasy Mod lists for FFIX, FFVIII, and FFX if you are looking to relive the classics or change your gameplay experience.

Flagrum Mod Manager (Mandatory)

In order to play around with proper mods with FFXV you will need Flagrum and this mod tool is quite easy to use and doesn’t require any coding knowledge to set it up.

  1. Download the file and run the setup.exe file to install Flagrum
  2. Next, it should ask for the path of installation for the FFXV and it might automatically see it otherwise, it should be in D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY XV
  3. Now you should be all done if you are running the latest version of Flagrum, head into Workshop Mods to pick out stuff to install and activate/disable mods on the “Mod Manager” tab. Note that there are a lot of mods that may not work together so problems do exist.
  4. In order to browse workshop mods please head out here https://steamcommunity.com/app/637650/workshop/

In order to play with workshop mods you don’t need actually Flagrum installed unless the mod states that on the download page, but that should be a very rare case. With workshop mods, you have to toggle them on the “Mod” menu when you first launch the game, toggle the assets on/off depending on whatever you want to use them, and then go back to loading your game. Some of the armors are equippable skins otherwise they are default replacements for the characters.

Unlocked Guest Characters

Mod that unlocks 8 different characters that you can introduce to your party, you can also adjust the stats of these characters to max or moderate increase. This tool has another functionality that completely removes guest characters out from your party (there are a few parts in the game where characters join forcibly). You can also adjust their equipment a bit depending on the character, all these have different levels of interactivity due to how they were originally coded in the game.

Lost Treasures Mod

This cool mod restores many pieces of cut content that are already hiding right under the game files in your Final Fantasy XV installation! That means also some limited edition items that were only acquirable at a certain time. Here is a full list of items included in this one!

Included Limited Edition DLC

  • Alienware Shield
  • Half-life Outfit and Crowbar
  • Cup Noodle Helmet
  • The Sims Llama Outfits
  • Twitch Prime Chocobo, T-Shirt, and Regalia Decal
  • T-Shirts and Regalia Decals for each of the Episode DLCs
  • King’s Knight T-Shirt
  • Intel collaboration accessories
  • Dodanuki (Greatsword)
  • Starting allowance of 10K gil and various consumables

Restored Content

  • Pocket Edition character models
  • Retro character models
  • Summer Outfits
  • Cut AP Adapter accessory
  • Cut Radiant Gemstone accessory

Twitch Chocobo can be found at Wiz Chocobo Post, a new option will be given allowing you to change the appearance of the Chocobo.

FF Horizon (Regalia Handling Overhaul)

The title says it best this is a mod for overhauling how driving works in FFXV which tbh felt always very clunky and unresponsive. This mod enables the car to move less arcade-like and also at faster speeds – it has two different versions including one for the normal Regalia and one for Offroad Truck (Regalia Type-D).

Rinuals Mod Menu

The most advanced and most customizable mod on the whole list is the Rinuals Mod Menu which allows you to alter and change a bunch of different settings inside the game – in a lot of ways it feels like an actual cheat console than a mod.

Just to give an idea what types of things you can do with this mod menu include: Changing Weather to anything, God Mode (Flying), Unlimited MP, Unlimited Armiger, Unlimited Tech, Summon all summons at any point, Include any guest character in the party, Change player into a creature, Change age of the party, Visual effects for party members, Move party to anywhere on the map, Max Gil, Max AP, Max Skill EXP, Full rare Consumables, Max Chocobo Level, Hide UI, Change Regalia model, Fill Regalia tank, Adjust speed of character, Game Speed, Change party level and much more…

Projekt AKARI (Lights Shadows)

This is a Shader mod for FFXV and will alter how the game looks on night and day alike. You can also get the Reshade tool for free and use it to adjust every graphic parameter almost inside the game can make it look more like the way you want it to and all this can be adjusted middle of the game.

Gray Fox Ignis

There are multiple nice gag skins and costumes for the main party, but since Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake is on the way I thought I would feature this Gray fox skin for Ignis. Note that this is a workshop mod so it doesn’t require Flagrum to run!

Barret Wallace Gladio

Modders have created a fair amount of costumes and skins from previous Final Fantasy titles to FFXV and some of the better ones that I tried out was this Barret one and there was Cloud Strife one available for Noct too. Note that this is a workshop mod so it doesn’t require Flagrum to run!

Geralt Of Rivia (Noctis)

A Costume from Witcher 3 for our beloved Noctis, this is not a reskin but actual armor that comes with stats when equipped which adds the following traits Str 100, Magic 60, Max HP 50, Max MP 40! The image above is a bit blurry, but that’s due to some processing so try it in-game to have a better feel of how it looks.

There are a bunch of other cool mods that you can dig at sites like CurseForge, Steam Workshop, NexusMods, and Modworkshop. As for people thinking about running stuff on Steamdeck, I cannot help you, but in theory, it should be possible to run stuff through it as well – it comes to modding the console versions I’m afraid there is nothing you can do about that.
